How we write

Editorial policy
1

Sheffield-Rooted Perspective

Our writers actually walk Ecclesall Road and know the local gallery scene, not remote freelancers filing from elsewhere.

2

No Clickbait Policy

Headlines describe what the piece actually argues, nothing oversold to get a click.

3

Artists Get Final Say

Every artist we quote reads their section before publish and can ask us to correct it.

4

Independent From Ad Networks

We are reader supported, not funded by banner ads that reward outrage over accuracy.

Forge & Canvas

About This Publication

Forge & Canvas is written by working artists, printmakers and a couple of former art teachers based around Sheffield, people who spend their weekdays in studios rather than newsrooms. We write for local makers, collectors and students trying to work out what AI actually changes, and what it doesn't. Every practical claim is checked against a working artist's experience before it runs, and we update pieces when tools, laws or local galleries move on.

About us

Questions readers ask

who writes for this magazine

Our pieces are written by Sheffield-based journalists and working artists, never by an AI tool. Every essay carries a named byline and a second editor's sign-off before it goes live.

how is this magazine funded

We run on reader support rather than ad placements. We do not run sponsored pieces dressed up as independent writing.

how do I suggest a topic

Use the topic field on our contact form and tell us what you want covered. An editor reads every suggestion within a week and replies either way.

what sources do you use for each essay

Most pieces rest on a direct interview, checked against local archive records and, where relevant, reader submissions. Every source is named in the piece itself.
